Karl Shimeji by paloiu222 Karl Shimeji by paloiu222
My very first Shimeji! :w00t:

What is a Shimeji?
Shimeji is a Windows desktop mascot that freely wanders and plays around the screen. The mascot is very configurable; its actions are defined through xml and its animations/images can be customized.

Even though this is my first time making a Shimeji, I decided to push it and mess around with the actions.xml and behaviours.xml files to add some custom animations.
I even added blinking animations.A shimeji that blinks! :la:

The sprites were originally drawn in Paint Tool SAI, but they turned out to have a fuzzy outline around them which I couldn't get rid of. In the end, I had to redraw everything in Flash.
Fortunately, everything turned out fine after that.

How to use
1. After downloading, extract the folder anywhere with a program like WinZip or WinRar.
2. Then, inside the folder, you should find a file called Shimeji-ee.exe. Double-click that to execute it.
3. A window should then pop up asking you which character to select. Karl should be the only choice there anyway. :D So, choose him, and click Ok.
He should then fall from the top of the screen. :la:

This Shimeji was made from the Shimeji-ee, meaning all his files are in English.
And his options are easily accessible from just right-clicking him. ;)

I might make some changes if I ever see any need to. :dummy:

*read the artist's description* I have to say, I'm thoroughly impressed. I've tried making a shimeji once or twice, and I had trouble just sticking to what I think is the basic model with 42 poses - never mind customizing. I haven't downloaded it yet, and have only seen a couple other deviants' screenshots, but what I've seen shows a great deal of effort and consideration. That being said, sorry for posting on something a couple years old, but I didn't know this existed until now.

:iconintenserageplz: HOW COULD YOU NOT-? RAAAAAAAAAGH!!!!!
*hurts you*

He's a character created by ~Unknown-person. He became quite well-known when he was used in the deviantART OC tournament, Law of Talos. ~Unknown-person's entries even ended up second place. And unlike most of the other entries, his/her entries were flash animated, really well too.
If you want to check it out, you could start with Karl's reference sheet. It's kind of like a brief bio of him. [link]

The rest of the Law of Talos entries are in his gallery in the forms of flash animations and comics. They're sort of fragments of a story though, so some parts might not make so much sense. For the full story of the Law of Talos, you might have to check out the other contestants' entries.

Personally, I'm too lazy too go track down all the other people who entered the tournament, and I'm mostly just interested in Karl, so I never really read up on the full story. :D
