Karl Shimeji by paloiu222 Karl Shimeji by paloiu222
My very first Shimeji! :w00t:

What is a Shimeji?
Shimeji is a Windows desktop mascot that freely wanders and plays around the screen. The mascot is very configurable; its actions are defined through xml and its animations/images can be customized.

Even though this is my first time making a Shimeji, I decided to push it and mess around with the actions.xml and behaviours.xml files to add some custom animations.
I even added blinking animations.A shimeji that blinks! :la:

The sprites were originally drawn in Paint Tool SAI, but they turned out to have a fuzzy outline around them which I couldn't get rid of. In the end, I had to redraw everything in Flash.
Fortunately, everything turned out fine after that.

How to use
1. After downloading, extract the folder anywhere with a program like WinZip or WinRar.
2. Then, inside the folder, you should find a file called Shimeji-ee.exe. Double-click that to execute it.
3. A window should then pop up asking you which character to select. Karl should be the only choice there anyway. :D So, choose him, and click Ok.
He should then fall from the top of the screen. :la:

This Shimeji was made from the Shimeji-ee, meaning all his files are in English.
And his options are easily accessible from just right-clicking him. ;)

I might make some changes if I ever see any need to. :dummy:

*read the artist's description* I have to say, I'm thoroughly impressed. I've tried making a shimeji once or twice, and I had trouble just sticking to what I think is the basic model with 42 poses - never mind customizing. I haven't downloaded it yet, and have only seen a couple other deviants' screenshots, but what I've seen shows a great deal of effort and consideration. That being said, sorry for posting on something a couple years old, but I didn't know this existed until now.

You mean you had problems keeping your design consistent throughout the 42 poses, or 42 poses was too much?
I did it over a long period of time due to procrastination, so it gave me a lot to think of customization ideas. :D

It's 2 years old, but it's the only Shimeji I've ever made, so I still appreciate comments on it. :aww:

Consistency was a fairly big issue for the first one I made, and still gave me grief in the second one (and that was with cheating because I'd copy/paste whenever I could get away with it), but I think 42 poses was the minimum for most shimejis I saw, and anything more just really scares me because on top of creating more images (which takes a ton of planning, creativity and artistic skill that I do not possess. XD), people actually redefine the program in a way, by adding their own code, something that's way beyond what I'm capable of.
